Regulation (NAP) – Bank Identification Number – NIB

The Central Bank of São Tomé and Príncipe mandates the adoption of the Bank Identification Number (NIB) to securely and unequivocally identify account holders at Credit Institutions. This numerical identifier follows a standardized 21-digit structure comprising national institution codes, branch codes, account numbers, and control digits. The regulation takes effect on January 2, 2003, to facilitate automated banking operations and enhance transaction security for both clients and financial institutions.
