G8/2016: Margin Requirements for Non-Centrally Cleared Derivatives

The South African Reserve Bank’s Office of the Registrar of Banks has delayed the implementation of margin requirements for non-centrally cleared derivatives to a date after 1 January 2017. This adjustment follows extensive stakeholder consultations and formal comments on a November 2016 proposed directive, ensuring adequate time to align with the revised Basel Committee and IOSCO framework. The Office will publish the revised effective date shortly while requiring banks, foreign branches, and auditors to return signed acknowledgement forms.
