Bank of Botswana Act

The Government of Botswana enacted this legislation to establish the Bank of Botswana as an independent corporate entity tasked with maintaining monetary stability, ensuring a sound financial system, and fostering sustained economic development. The Act structures the Bank’s governance through an appointed Board and Governor while mandating capital preservation, profit transfers to the state treasury, and strict confidentiality for all officers. It further empowers the central bank with exclusive currency issuance rights, foreign exchange management authority, and comprehensive oversight of domestic financial institutions and government fiscal operations.
