Currency Management Department Instruction No. 2 on Counterfeit Currency Notes Handling

The Central Bank of Myanmar’s Currency Management Department has issued Instruction No. 2 (2017–2018) mandating state and private banks to systematically identify, document, and store counterfeit currency notes received from depositors. Branch managers must complete standardized forms capturing depositor details, note specifications, and transaction records, then forward the verified notes to local police stations while retaining copies for internal audit. Banks are further required to submit accurate monthly and annual summaries of all stored counterfeit notes to the Central Bank’s headquarters in Naypyidaw to ensure consistent regulatory oversight and record-keeping.
