Absorption of Accumulated Losses by Shareholders or Quota Holders

The accumulated loss balance of institutions in the National Financial System may be absorbed on the year-end balance sheet date using funds from shareholders or quota holders, after applying accumulated profits, profit reserves and capital reserves. For institutions with foreign capital participation, absorbing losses with external funds from medium- and long-term financial operations registered with the Department of Foreign Capital (FIRCE) requires prior authorization from that Department. The reduction amount is charged to the liability account that recorded the inflow and credited to accumulated profits or losses. The circular entered into force on publication, with effects including financial statements prepared on 31.12.90.
