Adoption of the Legal Entity Identifier in South Africa

Commercial banks must include LEIs of counterparties in daily money market transaction reports to the South African Reserve Bank. Legal entities must apply for, maintain, and annually renew their LEIs to prevent lapses and trading disruptions, while correcting inaccurate data. EU investment firms and trading venues must use LEIs for MiFIR/MiFID II reporting and FIRDS submissions. All financial institutions must obtain LEIs for themselves and ensure their legal person clients hold valid LEIs.
