Report · AFM · 31 Oct 2022
Conducted by Ipsos for the AFM, this report analyzes the attitudes and investment behaviors of 402 Dutch crypto holders, distinguishing between those with traditional investments and those without. The findings reveal that while Bitcoin and Ethereum are dominant, most investors have committed less than €500, and a significant portion underestimates the financial risks associated with market crashes. The study highlights that investors with broader portfolios are better informed and perceive higher risks compared to those investing solely in cryptocurrency.

11 Research Methodology and Background Characteristics Background Cryptocurrencies have been in the news a lot in recent years. Prices rose to record highs, but also fell significantly. Despite all the news reports, not much is yet known about crypto holders and their attitudes towards these digital payment methods. In this research, we focus on the different cryptocurrencies people own, how they came to invest in them, and their perception of the risks surrounding cryptocurrencies.
