BCB Resolution No. 550 — Establishes Accounting Criteria for Virtual Assets

Consortium administrators, payment institutions, securities firms, and virtual asset service providers must recognize virtual assets at fair value, measuring them at least monthly upon interim and annual statements, except for same-group assets (lower of cost and fair value) and NFTs (cost). De-recognition occurs upon sale or discontinuation, with gains/losses in the period's result. Institutions must disclose accounting criteria, risks, quantities, carrying amounts, fair value hierarchies, and gains/losses in explanatory notes. These provisions apply prospectively from January 1, 2027.
