BRPD-1 Circular No. 12 Date: ----------------- 29 Bangabda 1433 Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer All Scheduled Banks Operating in Bangladesh Dear Sir, Regarding verification of bank statements and other documents for visa applications.
During visa applications to various countries from Bangladesh, citizens are sometimes required to submit documents such as bank statements, solvency certificates, and investment certificates as per the demand of certain embassies/visa centers. The Central Office has been informed that embassies/visa centers are facing difficulties in verifying the immediate accuracy of such documents provided by banks. It has been observed that there is no mechanism for the immediate verification of the accuracy of such documents provided by banks. The need has arisen to make the aforementioned documents immediately digitally verifiable to reduce the time and administrative cost of visa application decisions and to facilitate accurate verification.
Now, in order to verify the accuracy of bank statements and other documents quickly and effectively by various embassies or visa centers, you are advised to follow the following instructions when providing such documents by banks:
a) It is mandatory to attach a scannable QR code to the requested bank statements, solvency certificates, investment certificates, and other documents by the account holder for the purpose of visa application;
b) Through scanning the said QR code, the bank must ensure the verification of the following minimum information regarding the customer's bank statement:
(1) Name: Account Holder
(2) Account Number: Account Number
(3) Account Type: Savings Current Account
(4) Account Type: Fixed Deposit Account
(5) Current Balance: Current Balance
c) The said information must be stored and verifiable for a minimum of 06 months.
In order to follow the above instructions, banks must take necessary arrangements to prepare the system within 90 (ninety) days from the date of issuance of the circular. In this regard, it must be ensured that existing rules and regulations regarding cybersecurity and data retention are followed.
These instructions have been issued under the powers conferred by Section 45 of the Bank Company Act, 1991, and they shall come into force immediately.
Yours faithfully,
(Gazi Md. Mahfuzul Islam)
Director (BRPD)
