BRPD Circular Letter No. 37: Regarding Efficient Use of Fuel and Electricity, and Energy Efficient Use of Air Conditioners
The Bangladesh Bank directs all scheduled banks operating in Bangladesh to formulate and implement their own internal policies for the efficient use of fuel and electricity, and the energy-efficient use of air conditioners, ensuring alignment with the guidelines issued by the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA). Banks are required to adopt specific operational standards, including setting air conditioner temperatures at a minimum of 25°C, conducting monthly filter cleaning, performing annual servicing, and monitoring energy consumption metrics such as CO2 levels and humidity. The directive mandates the adoption of energy-efficient technologies, such as LED lighting and inverter-based appliances, and encourages the generation of renewable energy to meet at least 3% of office electricity demand.
