The Central Bank of Egypt imposes additional risk weights on the excess amount when the total credit facilities granted to the top 50 clients and their related parties exceed 50% of the bank's credit portfolio, applying a 200% weight for excesses between 50% and 70%, and 300% for excesses above 70%. Foreign bank branches are restricted from exceeding half of their capital base regarding this excess. The Central Bank of Egypt has exempted banks from applying these concentration limits until the end of December 2022 to support economic sectors amid the coronavirus pandemic.
