Central Bank of Oman Circular BM 1227 on Use of Omani Rial Symbol
Licensed banks, finance and leasing companies, payment service providers, and money exchange establishments operating in Oman must adopt the official Omani Rial symbol across all customer-facing channels, payment interfaces, and official documents. The symbol must be used strictly according to the specifications in Annexure I and must not be altered or stylized in any way that causes ambiguity. Institutions are permitted to continue using the international currency code for cross-border transactions and correspondent banking. All required system and operational changes must be completed by 31 July 2026 under senior management oversight.
