The Central Bank of Egypt mandates that banks must modify the software of their Point of Sale (POS) devices or associated switches to prohibit foreign currency transactions for purchases made with locally issued cards within Egypt. Banks are granted a two-month compliance period from the date of the circular to implement these software changes. This measure ensures that domestic cards are used exclusively for transactions in Egyptian Pounds, while allowing foreign-issued cards to be used for both local and foreign currencies.
