Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) registered under a specific category may apply to change their category with the approval of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), provided they have not made any investments under their original category. Applicants must submit an application with a fee of Rs. 1 lakh, an updated Form A, supporting documents, and a rationale, while registration fees are waived. If funds have been raised, the AIF must offer investors the option to withdraw commitments without penalties and return any collected fees, and must restrict investments to liquid funds or bank deposits until approval is granted. Upon approval, the AIF must distribute the revised placement memorandum and relevant information to all investors.
