The Civil Status Department mandates the acceptance of the National ID Card (issued under Article 39 of Law No. 9 of 2001) in all transactions, overriding previous restrictions. This acceptance applies to Jordanian citizens and non-resident military personnel, while explicitly excluding non-resident civilians and those prohibited by law from holding a National ID Card.

Further to our letter No. 13804/3/3/2/10 dated 2000/8/24, and our circular No. 8085/1/11/72 dated 2000/7/30, and the attached circular No. 4603/1/11/72 dated 1999/5/26, and our letter No. 18619/1/11/72 dated 2001/10/24, and our letter No. 18619/1/11/72 dated 2001/10/24, and your letter No. 17444/3/3/2/10 dated 2001/10/22 referring to the attached letter from the Central Bank of Jordan dated 2001/10/22,
We refer to Article 39 of Law No. 9 of 2001 (the National ID Card Law), which stipulates that the National ID Card is the official document for identifying Jordanian citizens in all transactions, except for those who are not required to hold a National ID Card.
Accordingly, the National ID Card issued by the Civil Status Department is accepted for identifying Jordanian citizens as of 1999/5/26.
Military personnel are not required to hold a National ID Card; therefore, their military ID cards are accepted for identification purposes in all transactions, provided that the law does not prohibit them from holding a National ID Card.
For non-resident military personnel, their military ID cards are accepted for identification purposes in all transactions, provided that they are not prohibited by law from holding a National ID Card.
For non-resident civilians, their passports are accepted for identification purposes in all transactions, provided that they are not prohibited by law from holding a National ID Card.
We appreciate your cooperation.
