Circular No. 968 — Renewal of Guarantees and Sureties Granted to Commercial and Investment Banks

The Central Bank of Brazil allows the renewal of guarantees previously granted to commercial and investment banks without prior authorization until December 31, 1985, provided that the Central Bank is notified. Starting January 1, 1986, such renewals require prior authorization from the Central Bank, supported by a justification backed by a registration form and a description of counter-guarantees presented by the beneficiary. Commercial banks must direct communications and requests to the Department of Organization and Bank Authorizations (DEORB), while investment banks must address them to the Department of Capital Market Organization (DEORC).
