The Central Bank of Jordan mandates that all banks operating in the Kingdom must make SMS notification services mandatory for all retail customers, rather than optional. This service must be linked to the nature of the transaction, not limited solely to withdrawal activities, and must be provided to customers at no additional cost. This requirement is implemented to address instances of fraud, embezzlement, and electronic hacking affecting customer accounts.

Circular to Banks Operating in the Kingdom
Greetings,
In light of reports received by the Central Bank of Jordan indicating that some banks operating in the Kingdom are subject to fraud and/or embezzlement and/or electronic hacking on their customers' accounts, and with the Central Bank's keenness on the safety of financial transactions executed by banks via electronic means and the security of their systems and information, please confirm the necessity of making the SMS message sending service a mandatory service for all retail customers and not optional, and that this service be linked to the nature of the transaction and not limited to withdrawal transactions only, and without any additional costs to customers.
Please accept the highest regards,
Governor
Dr. Ziad Fariz
