The MFSA issues a new Shareholding Policy for Credit Institutions and Insurance Companies that repeals and supersedes the Policy dated 13 February 2012. This update removes the requirement for waiver applications and eliminates the Contingency Contribution payment for new credit institutions, while Paragraph 24D of Banking Rule/BR01 is concurrently updated. The Authority mandates that shareholding structures be reasonably diversified and balanced to prevent shareholder dominance, explicitly stating it has no risk appetite for structures that could adversely impact governance, financial soundness, or resilience.
