Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022

Issued by the National Assembly of Nigeria in May 2022, this Act repeals previous legislation to establish a unified legal and institutional framework for detecting, preventing, and prosecuting terrorism and its financing. It mandates the creation of a National Counter-Terrorism Centre under the National Security Adviser to coordinate national strategies while empowering law enforcement agencies with expanded investigation, search, seizure, and freezing powers. The legislation further defines comprehensive terrorist offenses, establishes a Nigeria Sanctions Committee for targeted financial measures, and imposes reporting and compliance obligations on financial institutions, airlines, and commercial carriers.
