Delay to the implementation of the European Single Electronic Format (ESEF)

The Financial Conduct Authority delays mandatory European Single Electronic Format requirements for machine-readable publication and basic financial tagging by one year, applying to financial years starting on or after 1 January 2021. The requirement for issuers preparing IFRS consolidated statements to tag notes to the annual financial statements remains unchanged, applying to financial years starting on or after 1 January 2022. The new rules come into force on IP completion day, defined as 31 December 2020 at 11:00 pm, and continue temporary relief for delayed publication of financial statements for listed companies with periods ending before April 2021.
