Preliminary data for India’s balance of payments for the fourth quarter of 2025-26 show a current account surplus of US$ 7.1 billion, a decrease from the US$ 13.7 billion surplus in the same quarter of the previous year. Merchandise trade deficits widened to US$ 83.4 billion, while net services receipts increased to US$ 60.4 billion. Foreign direct investment recorded a net inflow of US$ 4.2 billion, whereas foreign portfolio investment saw a net outflow of US$ 12.0 billion. Foreign exchange reserves increased by US$ 7.2 billion on a balance of payments basis during this period.
