CB Circular No. 10/2025 on the New Zambian Currency Family
The Bank of Zambia has issued Circular No. 10/2025 mandating commercial banks to prepare for the March 31, 2025 launch of a redesigned six-note and six-coin currency series that retains existing codes while introducing enhanced security features. Commercial banks must calibrate all cash-handling equipment, conduct comprehensive staff training on the new notes and coins, update internal processing procedures, and execute customer awareness campaigns using provided sensitisation materials. The central bank will monitor compliance with these operational and educational requirements to ensure a seamless transition without disrupting existing accounting or financial systems.
