FG24/3: Finalised non-handbook guidance on the anti-greenwashing rule

The anti-greenwashing rule in the ESG Sourcebook requires firms to ensure that any reference to the sustainability characteristics of a product or service is consistent with those characteristics and is fair, clear, and not misleading. This rule applies to all authorised firms communicating with clients in the UK regarding financial products and services, regardless of whether they are subject to the Consumer Duty. Firms must substantiate claims with robust evidence, present information transparently without omitting important details, and ensure visual presentations do not create misleading impressions. The guidance clarifies that this rule complements existing Handbook requirements and consumer protection laws without creating new obligations.
