De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) and the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) cooperate in assessing the fitness and propriety of management and supervisory board members at banks and insurance companies. DNB is legally required to consult the AFM for these assessments and may exchange information regarding a candidate's reputation. Each authority conducts an independent assessment, and a negative decision is issued if either assessment is negative. The authorities may also mutually attend each other's assessment interviews.
