Licensing, Credit Information and Examination Fees of Microfinance Institutions Directive No. MFI/34/2022
The National Bank of Ethiopia establishes fees for microfinance institutions, requiring a Birr 20,000 investigation fee and Birr 30,000 licensing fee for new licenses, and a Birr 30,000 fee for renewals or replacements. Annual examination fees are set at Birr 50,000 for big institutions, Birr 37,500 for medium, and Birr 25,000 for small, based on asset size thresholds defined in Annex 1. Credit information fees are waived for requests up to Birr 100,000, charged at Birr 1,000 for amounts between Birr 100,000 and Birr 1,000,000, and Birr 2,000 for amounts exceeding Birr 1,000,000. The directive repeals specific articles from previous directives and entered into effect on October 5, 2022.
