The National Bank of Belgium updates its governance manual for the banking sector to align with the Companies and Associations Code, new European Banking Authority guidelines on internal governance, suitability assessments, and remuneration, and other legal developments since 2018. These prudential expectations apply with immediate effect to credit institutions governed by Belgian law, branches of non-EEA credit institutions established in Belgium, and Belgian financial holding companies. The manual also applies by analogy to custodian banks and institutions supporting a central securities depository where corresponding legal provisions exist.
