NORMATIVE INSTRUCTION BCB
NO. 488, OF JULY 9, 2024

Establishes guidance for the banking network on forwarding legitimate national banknotes of the first family of the Real, including the commemorative ten reais polymer note alluding to the 500th Anniversary of the Discovery of Brazil.

The Head of the Circulating Medium Department (Mecir), in the exercise of the powers conferred by art. 23, I, letter "a", of the Internal Regulations of the Central Bank of Brazil, annexed to Resolution BCB No. 340, of September 21, 2023, having in view the provisions of articles 2 and 17 of Resolution No. 194, of February 24, 2022,

R E S O L V E S:

Art. 1. This Normative Instruction establishes guidance on the forwarding of legitimate national banknotes of the first family of the Real, including the commemorative ten reais note alluding to the 500th Anniversary of the Discovery of Brazil, to be observed by institutions authorized to operate by the Central Bank, holders of Reserve Bank Accounts or Clearing Accounts.

Art. 2. Legitimate national banknotes of the first family of the Real, including the commemorative ten reais polymer note alluding to the 500th Anniversary of the Discovery of Brazil, received by institutions authorized to operate by the Central Bank, holders of Reserve Bank Accounts or Clearing Accounts in payment operations, deposit, exchange or in any other operations with cash, shall be forwarded, through deposit or exchange operations, to the Custodian institution, which will subsequently forward them to the Central Bank of Brazil.

Sole paragraph. The forwarding of the banknotes referred to in this article shall observe the rules provided for in the current regulation.

Art. 3. This Normative Instruction shall enter into force on July 10, 2024.

NOTE

By virtue of art. 24 of Decree No. 10.411, of June 30, 2020, the issuance of normative acts by bodies of the federal public administration from October 14, 2021, including this Central Bank, must be preceded by a Regulatory Impact Analysis (AIR).

However, as provided in art. 4, II and III, of that Decree, the AIR may be waived in cases of normative acts intended to regulate rights or obligations defined in a hierarchically superior norm that does not allow, technically or legally, different regulatory alternatives and of normative acts of low impact. In this way, the Normative Instruction in question is exempt from the AIR.
