PI-MAF-DIR-01-2017 – Gym rebates and other wellness benefits provided by Medical Aid Funds

All registered Medical Aid Funds are directed to discontinue providing gym rebates and wellness programs that do not constitute health care treatment by a registered person. The prohibited benefits include boot camp fitness training, quit smoking programs, cooking workshops, walking clubs, and corporate wellness programs offering health screenings. Funds must amend their rules to comply with the Medical Aid Funds Act and meet the compliance deadline of 31 December 2018.
