Proclamation of The Insurance Act, 2018 (As Amended By The Insurance (Amended) Act, 2020)

The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago proclaimed the Insurance Act, 2018 (as amended), effective January 1, 2021, excluding sections 184 and 185. The Minister of Finance enacted nine specific regulations under the Act and one amendment to the Central Bank Act, all effective from January 1, 2021. The Central Bank issued new Claims and Post Sales Communication guidelines and required adherence to a revised Guideline for the Approval of New or Significantly Amended Insurance Policies. Insurers and brokers must continue following existing guidelines not inconsistent with the new Act, while the Central Bank plans to review and update several other guidelines over the next two years.
