Rule · CBJ · 15 Oct 2000
The Central Bank of Jordan permits banks to own real estate for operational or staff housing needs without prior application, provided they submit monthly supervisory data including justification, location, description, cost, and usage. Banks are prohibited from leasing any owned real estate without the Central Bank's prior written consent, which requires specific details regarding the property, the leased portion, and the tenant. Banks may also acquire real estate to settle debts without prior application, subject to a maximum ownership period of two years, with a possible extension of up to two additional years upon demonstrating valid reasons. All previous instructions on this matter are repealed, and banks must submit monthly lists of debt-settled properties using the attached form.
