The Financial Institutions and Markets Act, 2021, which came into operation on 1 May 2026, requires financial intermediaries in securities markets, collective investment schemes, and medical aid funds to register with the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (NAMFISA). Individuals and entities registered under previous legislation are automatically recognized as registered under the new Act but must apply for formal registration within twelve months of the commencement date. Only registered public companies or individuals may legally operate as specific intermediaries, such as securities dealers, investment managers, or medical aid fund brokers, under the Act.

Certain activities are excluded from this definition.
