The Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority mandates specific calculation rules for total loss settlements in vehicle financing leases, effective for incidents occurring on or after January 1, 2020. The regulations define key terms such as 'Lessor', 'Lessee', and 'Total Loss', and establish a formula to determine the net settlement amount based on the unamortized portion of the initial payment and the difference between the remaining asset value and insurance compensation. If the net settlement is positive, the lessee is compensated for the full amount minus any outstanding pre-loss debts; if negative, the lessor may claim the net amount plus any outstanding debts from the lessee. These rules apply to all banks and financing companies operating in the Kingdom.
