Reserve Bank of India (All India Financial Institutions (AIFIs) – Prudential Norms on Capital Adequacy) Fourth Amendment Directions, 2026

The Reserve Bank of India substitutes Paragraph 192 of the 2025 Directions to specify the methodology for All India Financial Institutions (AIFIs) to compute capital charges for foreign exchange risk. The amendment mandates that AIFIs calculate Net Open Position and maintain capital charges at both group and solo levels, applying a 9 percent capital requirement to the overall Net Open Position derived via a shorthand method. It introduces provisions allowing AIFIs to exclude certain structural foreign currency investments from the Net Open Position calculation, subject to specific criteria and quarterly recalculation using the CET1 ratio. These Amendment Directions come into effect on April 1, 2027.
