Reserve Bank of India (All India Financial Institutions – Resolution of Stressed Assets) Second Amendment Directions, 2026

The Amendment Directions insert new provisions defining 'specified non-financial assets' (SNFAs) acquired by All India Financial Institutions (AIFIs) and establish prudential norms for their valuation, accounting, and disposal. AIFIs must acquire SNFAs only when borrower exposures are classified as non-performing, record them at the lower of net book value or distress sale value, and dispose of them within a maximum period of seven years. Legacy SNFAs outstanding as of September 30, 2026 must comply with these requirements by September 30, 2027, and the Directions come into force on October 1, 2026.
