The directions insert Chapter V, Part D into the existing framework, establishing rules for banking services during declared calamities. Banks are authorized to operate affected branches from temporary premises for up to 30 days with further extensions requiring specific approval, and must arrange satellite offices, extension counters, or mobile banking facilities under intimation to the Reserve Bank. The regulations require immediate restoration of ATM services with alternative cash arrangements, permit the opening of small accounts for displaced persons lacking identification, and allow discretionary fee waivers or reductions for customers in affected areas for a period not exceeding one year. These amendments come into force on July 1, 2026.
