Circular: All Chief Executive Officers of Commercial Banks
Revision of the Cash Reserve Requirement
Pursuant to its mandate to promote monetary and financial stability, Bank of Uganda notifies all Commercial Banks that the Cash Reserve Requirement (CRR) has been increased from 11.0 per cent to 13.5 per cent. The revised requirement shall take effect from the reporting cycle commencing on 24th September 2026.
All Commercial Banks are expected to take the necessary measures to ensure full compliance with the revised CRR from the effective date. This adjustment is intended to support prudent liquidity management and enhance the effectiveness of monetary policy transmission in line with the prevailing macroeconomic and financial sector developments.
Bank of Uganda remains committed to maintaining a stable and resilient financial system and will continue to assess market conditions, issuing further guidance as may be required.
