Technical Standards on Credit Limits for Cooperative Banks

Cooperative banks must not grant credit or assume risks exceeding ten percent of their equity with the same natural or legal person, calculating limits by including overdrafts, loans, discounted documents, negotiable obligations, off-exchange repo investments, equity investments in debtor societies, and sureties. They must maintain an updated credit register verified by the internal auditor, submitting a monthly report to the Board of Administration within the first eight business days of each month covering the preceding month’s operations. These Standards, valid from June 20, 2024, replace the 2001 limits on credit granting, and non-compliance is sanctioned under the Financial System Supervision and Regulation Law.
