The New EU Sustainable Finance Model
The MFSA outlines the implementation of three EU legislative instruments: the Taxonomy Regulation, which entered into effect on 12 July 2020; the Disclosure Regulation, applicable as of 10 March 2021; and the Benchmark Regulation, requiring compliance by 30 April 2020. These measures impose obligations on institutional investors, asset managers, financial market participants, and benchmark administrators to integrate ESG factors and ensure transparency. The MFSA intends to consult with regulated entities prior to legal obligations entering into force and will issue separate circulars detailing specific requirements for each instrument.
