Rule · CBJ · 23 Apr 2006
Banks are authorized to purchase their own shares as treasury shares, subject to prior written approval from the Central Bank of Jordan. The maximum allowable purchase is 5% of subscribed capital, contingent upon the bank having net profits for the last two years, maintaining specific capital adequacy and liquidity ratios, and setting aside reserves equivalent to the cost of the treasury shares. Banks are prohibited from increasing capital or selling treasury shares until six months have passed since the last capital increase, and transactions with directors, related parties, or employee savings funds are strictly forbidden.
