Guidelines on the use of the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI)
EIOPA issued these revised Guidelines to clarify the scope and application of the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) for legal persons under the supervisory powers of competent authorities. The Guidelines require insurance, reinsurance, occupational pension institutions, and cross-border intermediaries to obtain or use LEI codes, ensuring unambiguous identification, improved data aggregation, and reduced reporting burdens across the EU. Competent authorities must align their regulatory frameworks with these requirements by July 2022 and report compliance to EIOPA within two months of the translated versions' publication.
