The Bank of Botswana has issued Regulatory Guideline RG 01/11/2022 to replace its 2009 framework by revoking the mandatory interest rate floor for 91-day deposit accounts and aligning disclosures with modern monetary policy operations. Licensed banks must now publish monthly deposit and lending rates in at least two widely circulated newspapers and on their websites, while maintaining quarterly reporting and prominent in-branch displays of pricing. The updated framework mandates transparent disclosure of annual percentage rates, applicable fees, and monthly instalments to prospective borrowers prior to loan contract finalization to ensure informed consumer decision-making.
