Directive 1/2008: Use of Divisional Names
The South African Reserve Bank issued Directive 1/2008 to regulate the use of divisional names by banks and foreign bank branches under the Banks Act, 1990. The directive mandates that the parent institution's name must appear prominently alongside any divisional name, requiring the parent name's print size to be at least 25 percent of the divisional name's size on stationery and advertising. It further requires specific display formats on buildings and billboards, including the phrase 'a division of', while exempting promotional merchandise from these visual constraints.
