Amendment of Operation of Foreign Exchange Bureau
The National Bank of Ethiopia amends Articles 4, 5, 6, and 7 of Directive No. FXD/17/2001 to set foreign currency cash note payment limits for foreign exchange bureaux. These limits allow sales up to USD 4,000 for holiday travel, medical treatment, and educational expenses, and up to USD 10,000 for business travel and government travelers. Non-resident account holders may withdraw up to USD 10,000 in cash notes for travel, while embassies and international organizations may request cash notes for conferences and per diem payments based on program requirements. Directives No. FXD/33/2007 and FXD/39/2009 are repealed, and these amendments enter into force on 4 October 2013.
