Annual disclosure regarding the designation of and capital surcharges on Belgian O-SIIs (1 December 2016)

The National Bank of Belgium maintains the O-SII designations for eight institutions: BNP Paribas Fortis, KBC Group, ING Belgium, Belfius Bank, Euroclear, The Bank of New York Mellon, Axa Bank Europe, and Argenta. These entities are assigned to two buckets based on systemic importance scores, resulting in CET1 capital surcharges of 1.5% for the first bucket and 0.75% for the second. The surcharges are phased in over a three-year period starting 1 January 2016, requiring a 1.0% buffer for Bucket 2 banks and a 0.5% buffer for Bucket 1 banks in 2017.
