The National Bank of Belgium maintains the O-SII designations for eight Belgian institutions: BNP Paribas Fortis, KBC Group, ING Belgium, Belfius Bank, Euroclear, The Bank of New York Mellon, Argenta, and Axa Bank Belgium. The first five banks were automatically designated based on EBA methodology scores, while the remaining three were designated through supervisory discretion. Capital surcharges remain unchanged, with banks in the higher systemic importance bucket facing a 1.5% CET1 buffer and those in the lower bucket facing a 0.75% buffer. These surcharges are imposed under Article 14 of Annex IV of the Belgian Banking Law and were phased in starting 1 January 2016.
