Anti-money laundering and counter terrorism laws cover thousands more businesses

AUSTRAC has expanded Australia's anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing laws to cover tens of thousands of additional businesses, including real estate agents, lawyers, and dealers in precious metals. The reforms aim to close longstanding regulatory gaps by imposing compliance obligations on sectors frequently exploited by organized crime to launder illicit funds. Businesses must implement AML/CTF programs and enroll with the regulator by July 29 to avoid legal penalties as the new requirements take effect on July 1.
