The Connecticut Department of Banking issued enforcement actions against E.L.S. Marketing Inc and Irene E. Smith for conducting unlicensed debt negotiation services in violation of Connecticut General Statutes Section 36a-671(b). Both respondents were ordered to cease operations, repay fees to affected Connecticut debtors plus interest for agreements entered into on or after October 1, 2009, and face potential civil penalties. Additionally, the Department issued a notice of intent not to renew the mortgage lender license of Siwell, Inc. due to its failure to maintain a designated qualified individual with required experience, as mandated by Sections 36a-489 and 36a-494.
