The Collegiate Board of the Central Bank of Brazil, in an extraordinary session held on June 9, 2011, based on Art. 10, item II, of Law No. 4,595 of December 31, 1964, and Resolution No. 3,981 of June 1, 2011,
RESOLVES:
Art. 1 The Circular No. 3,538 of June 1, 2011, shall enter into force with the addition of the following article:
"Art. 3-A In the event of a withdrawal, including at self-service terminals, where a banknote suspected of having been damaged by the activation of an anti-theft device has been received, the financial institution shall, at its own expense, replace the suspected banknote with another banknote in good condition for use, immediately after its presentation by the customer.
§ 1 The financial institution must register the occurrence referred to in the caput in an automated system and send the banknote to the Central Bank of Brazil, separately from the other banknotes normally sent in the process of cleansing the circulating medium, observing the areas of operation of its regional representations, as defined in its own normative.
§ 2 Financial institutions shall reimburse the Central Bank of Brazil for the cost of the analysis and replacement services of the damaged banknotes." (NR)
Art. 2 This Circular enters into force on the date of its publication.
