The Malta Financial Services Authority amends Banking Rule BR/13 regarding the assessment of acquisitions and increases in shareholdings in credit institutions. The revisions introduce paragraph 18A to apply a proportionality principle, allowing the Authority not to oppose an acquisition solely due to justifiable missing information. For indirect acquirers already licensed by the Authority, assessments may be limited to persons at the top of the corporate control chain. The rule also clarifies how overseas regulatory authority assessments are considered and updates Appendix 1 by repealing sections covered by European Banking Authority technical standards.
