Commencement of the Financial Institutions and Markets Act 2021
The Namibian Ministry of Finance has issued Government Notices No. 147 to 149 to formally commence the Financial Institutions and Markets Act 2021, the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority Act 2021, and their accompanying regulations on 1 May 2026. These instruments establish comprehensive regulatory frameworks for micro-insurance products and intermediaries, financial markets including money market instruments, retirement fund surplus distributions, friendly societies, and medical aid funds while defining key terms and compliance standards. The regulations empower the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority to oversee market participants, enforce caps on policy benefits and investments, and impose sanctions for non-compliance across the financial sector.
